Q&A with Tom: Inside the World of Motorhome Sales
When you’re choosing a motorhome, it’s not just about layouts, specifications and storage space – it’s also about the people helping you find the right fit. We caught up with Tom SB to learn more about how he got into the motorhome world, what life behind the scenes really looks like, and some of the things customers might not expect. Here’s a chance to get to know the person behind the role a little better.
What first got you into the motorhome world?
I started working in the accessory shop whilst still at school, working weekends and half term.
If your job had a tagline, what would it be?
I think that might depend on who you ask!
Can you usually tell within five minutes what kind of motorhome someone will end up choosing?
You never know what someone will fall in love with – often it’s not what they originally came to view. Some customers make their mind up in five minutes, while others have taken five years.
What goes on behind the scenes that customers never see?
Blood, sweat and tears. The rest is top secret.
Are there any motorhome features customers always get ridiculously excited about?
You’d be surprised. Anything from the colour of the upholstery to the size of the water tank. That is not a joke.
What’s the feature people think they need… but often don’t?
A large kitchen. Who wants to cook a big meal when they’re on holiday? That’s what the BBQ and pubs are for!
Tea or coffee when doing a deal?
Depends who’s making them!
If you were buying your dream motorhome tomorrow, what would be non-negotiable?
Got to be a fridge for the beers.

Communication, negotiation and resilience.
This or that?
Fixed bed or lounge conversion?
Fixed bed.
New or pre-loved?
Pre-loved — unless it’s a new Ace 1500 DB!
Coastal road trip or mountain escape?
Sunsets on the beach are hard to beat.
Off-grid wild camping or luxury campsite?
Luxury every time.
Manual or automatic?
Considering the majority of the market is manual, I probably shouldn’t say automatic!
